Thomas Witkop announced his run for Florida’s 21st Congressional District on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the Jupiter Lighthouse. The campaign was scheduled for an outdoor venue but deftly regrouped and shifted the event to an undercover spot at the lighthouse once it started pouring buckets. 70 of his most ardent supporters showed up from all around the district to support his run for democracy. Aaron Hawkins, the President of the young Democrats, introduced him to a thundering applause and welcomed his colleague to the podium.
Wearing rainboots and a smile the young candidate outlined his plans for the campaign. It will be based on civil discourse and a discussion of the issues. The campaign defines the differences with the incumbent as a belief in our freedoms, freedom to make individual health decisions, including reproductive health, belief in our democratic elections, and the importance of supporting the electoral results “even if our guy doesn’t win”, belief in our freedoms to choose the books we read, and a belief that January 6 was a dangerous assault on our democracy. He explained his position on gun safety and his love for the Florida outdoors, snorkeling, surfing, fishing and hunting.
